Why Yi Han Zi
Yi (一) means "one" in Chinese. Han Zi (汉字) means "Chinese character." Together, Yi Han Zi means "One Chinese Character."

About the creator
I grew up in China and have lived in the Netherlands for over 20 years. I return to China every year and know the challenges of navigating between cultures. This site is my way of sharing the stories behind Chinese characters · the ones that made me fall in love with the language.
Yi Han Zi is independently run. No government affiliation. No ads. Just honest, practical, and up-to-date information from someone who knows the culture inside out.
